Onwards and Upwards

It's too wet to garden at home today. This is a shame as I am not working, have no kids here and have - hmm - approx 40 new plants to plant! My workplace has a half-price sale you see.

Apart from the bargain aspect and the cheering self up aspect - it's hard not to indulge your natural plant-collecting urges when you are surrounded by respectable people of a certain age darting past you clutching armloads of azaleas and mumbling: Ooh, and look over there, I've always wanted a daphne odora...

It's Swoop and Swipe Time!

As a result of my spree on Friday, my van, has developed its own micro-climate, it's misted up on the inside as the plants breathe and grow within it. It's a jungle in there, complete with snails and spiders...!

Raining raining - I mean I don't mind getting wet, naturally, but the ground is very muddy. And I have just had a bath and sparkled myself up. An unusual enough occurence these days, ahem...

Anyway, I've a nice mug of tomato soup! The week's washing is done and drying. I'm snuggled up with a book and awaiting the return of the kids. Tomorrow's another day. Love to all.

Hugs to you Carly...

Sometimes, when you're back's against the wall and there's no light, just emptiness, all you can do is keep breathing and hold hands.

Sure I learned that in Brownies... I was a gnome. I didn't get a single badge. Not one. I was useless. Too shy :-(
I'm so glad I grew out of my gnomeishness!!!

Ah, I only got one girl guide badge myself, for my doll collection. I got in trouble lots though for being mouthy and unbecoming a girl guide so I dropped those fairies post haste!

Love you, K-K-K-Katie!

Re the doll collection, er, did that include an Amanda Jane?
She looked a bit like the queen, tough, expressionless etc... Definitely not Barbie :-)

Get better, get stronger, missing you already!! - X

Glad you are OK and that does sound cosy snuggling up to a book after a warm mug of soup. I enjoy doing that too.
Your van sound very eco friendly! LOL!

Birds are a great resource when one's feeling low, I find. I have a little feeding station outside my writing hut and am delighted, constantly, by squabbling tits and friendly robins.

Then too, my grand-daughter and I cycle down to the pond on the common to feed the water-birds. Besieged by seagulls, it is at present. Great squawking, wheeling, dive-bombing gangs of them - I used to admire them in their natural habitat, the sea, but here on the pond they are flying gangsters, nothing less!

It's fun though, to throw the bread as high as we can, and have the seagulls catch it in mid-air... That way, they redeem themselves, if only momentarily.

I wish you and your van could come and help me out a little in the garden. I have swept the leaves and planted the wallflowers - but what am I to do with all the geraniums that still flourish in the borders? And there's moss growing in my lawn - help, scream, panic: should I scrape it out - or leave it to flourish as something that is green, at least?

(You don't have to answer any of my gardening questions, of course. They are just my way of keeping my own spirits up.)

Hi Merry, good to hear you again, but sad to hear of so much upheaval in your life and wish that things would settle for you, into a pattern that feels comfortable. I know I went through a long long tunnel myself when I was alone with three young boys and no safety net. All I can wish for you is to believe it will be better and to enjoy all the good things that are in your life now.

So nice to see a comment from Beatrice, too. She still writes beautifully!

Smiles to you Maggie. And I love your progress. X

Bea, yes, you still write beautifully, as Marianne says. Actually, for a moment there I thought you might have made a new post which I hadn't spotted but Marianne had... So I checked... No such luck... Sad face...

Thank you for kindness and your perception. Much appreciated by me here. Albeit silently - well, maybe silence marks profundity...

There are birds here too. I saw a pair of jays recently - their colours are distinctive, it was relatively easy for a beginner like me to discover them on the net.

My van and I would be reluctant to disturb your green idyll. Moss? Well, so long as it's not a slip hazard - ? - I think perhaps it's simply verdant and welcome in shade...

:-)

Yes, I remember your tunnel time Marianne. And I'm so glad for your Good Times!

I don't know what to say in return, but - thank you for hearing me - and - gee, I envy your garden - it's an inspiration -

imagine planting anything in november! it is 8 degrees here. fahrenheit, not celsius. brrrrrrr

It is frosty here too now Laurie. All plants in, soil well dug over and manured etc. Garden looks cared for, for the first time in a long time. But, I don't know if the plants'll cope with the root shock now the frosts have begun.

It's another learning situ for me :-)

Thanks Laurie, for your kind words. I'm a bit afraid of slow, in case I stop altogether. If you know what I mean - get stuck in the kitchen armchair and can't move anymore.

But I'll bear it in mind - it makes sense. At a time like this Sensible is what is Required. Smiles.. X

I too love a mug of steaming cream of tomato soup. We have a lot in common. Sent you a couple of Twitter DMs as well.

I still think of you as my big sis Lady T :-)

Because you never know anything truly until you've lived it yourself.

Hugs X

(Took a while to figure out DMs - first thought was Dr Marten boots. Hmm. How could you get those up on Twitter I wondered? Age eh! Chuckle...)
